Building Together in 2026: Rebuilding Detroit's Continued Partnership with Habitat for Humanity Detroit

At Rebuilding Detroit, we believe that strengthening Detroit happens one project, one partnership, and one community at a time. That's why our team was proud to once again volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Detroit during our 2026 Volunteer Day.

Founded by Advance Plumbing, Rebuilding Detroit was created to bring together businesses, organizations, students, trades professionals, and community members who share a common goal: helping create a stronger Detroit. Whether through neighborhood revitalization, community partnerships, fundraising efforts, or volunteer projects, we believe lasting change happens when people work together.

This year's volunteer project brought 15 Advance Plumbing team members together to help rehabilitate a home originally built by Habitat for Humanity Detroit more than a decade ago. After reacquiring the property, Habitat began preparing it for its next chapter and future homeowner.

Unlike many Habitat projects that require extensive renovations, this home was in relatively good condition because it had originally been built through Habitat's program. As a result, the rehabilitation work focused primarily on cosmetic improvements rather than a complete gut renovation. Our team's role was to help refresh the home through painting and finishing work that will help prepare the property for another family to call home.

While painting may seem like a small task, every brush stroke contributes to something much larger. A fresh coat of paint helps transform a house into a welcoming home while ensuring the property is move-in ready for its future owners. More importantly, it represents the continued investment of volunteers, businesses, and community organizations working together to strengthen Detroit neighborhoods.

For many of our volunteers, the day served as a reminder that community impact comes in many forms. Not every project requires rebuilding from the ground up. Sometimes, preserving and refreshing what already exists can be just as meaningful. Seeing a home that Habitat built years ago being prepared for a new family demonstrated the long-term impact these projects have on our city.

Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity Detroit continues to be one of the most rewarding ways we give back to the community. Habitat's commitment to affordable homeownership and neighborhood development aligns closely with our own belief that strong communities are built through collaboration, investment, and service.

As a company that has served Detroit and the surrounding communities since 1920, Advance Plumbing understands the importance of maintaining and improving the places where people live. Through Rebuilding Detroit, we strive to support organizations that are creating opportunities and making a lasting difference throughout the city.

One of the highlights of the day was hearing directly from the Habitat team about the impact our volunteers continue to make. As one Habitat representative shared:

"We absolutely love the Advance Plumbing crew. You guys are always down to help with any project we need."

Comments like these remind us that the value of volunteering extends beyond the work itself. It's about showing up, building relationships, and being a dependable partner for organizations that are doing important work in our community.

We are grateful to the entire Habitat for Humanity Detroit team for welcoming our volunteers and for the incredible work they continue to do across the city. We are equally thankful to our Advance Plumbing volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to making this project a success.

Together, we're helping preserve homes, strengthen neighborhoods, and create opportunities for Detroit families. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Habitat for Humanity Detroit and finding new ways to support the city we proudly call home.

Because rebuilding Detroit isn't about one project or one organization—it's about a community coming together to make a lasting impact.
