Michigan is undergoing significant changes to enhance water safety. In late 2023 Michigan introduced the "Filter First" legislation. This new legislation mandates that schools and childcare centers install filtered-faucets, create management plans, and conduct lead testing. According to the new laws, institutions have until the conclusion of the 2025-2026 school year to install one bottle filling station or faucet filter per 100 children. Additionally, water testing must occur every one to two years.
While the state is providing training sessions for schools and childcare staff to navigate the implementation of these regulatory changes, it's imperative for other industry professionals to grasp the significance of these changes and proactively prepare for the anticipated surge in demand. As the deadline approaches, plumbers, contractors, and water filtration specialists need to familiarize themselves with the specifics of the "Filter First" legislation, ensuring they are equipped to meet the requirements and support institutions in their compliance efforts. By staying informed and proactive, industry professionals can play a crucial role in facilitating a smooth transition and safeguarding the health and well-being of Michigan.
Advance Plumbing collaborated with Balfey and Johnston to organize two educational events hosted at each of their respective locations. These events, held on March 11th and 12th, 2024, were open to the public and designed to provide essential insights into the implications of the new legislation.
Led by a representative from Balfey and Johnston, these events aimed to educate a diverse audience, including homeowners, plumbers, contractors, and other professionals impacted by the regulatory changes. A focal point of the educational sessions was Elkay water filtration systems, recognized as a leader in the industry for large-scale water filtration solutions.
Elkay's renowned drinking fountains and bottle refill stations were highlighted at the event, emphasizing their user-friendly design and easily accessible, replaceable water filter compartments. Attendees gained valuable knowledge about the capabilities of Elkay systems and their suitability for meeting the requirements of the "Filter First" legislation.
