In Michigan, the future of homebuilding has arrived. Citizen Robotics, along with other innovative partners, has created the first 3D printed house in the state. And when it comes to outfitting this new type of home, Advance Plumbing Supply has stepped up to donate the plumbing fixtures needed for the bathroom. This project is a true collaboration among those who care about Rebuilding Detroit. The project aims to provide training to the construction workforce on the future of building more affordable houses. Not only will it show young people how digital, robotics and automation tools can be used in homebuilding, it will also create better homes faster.

A first for Michigan
The 3D printed house in Michigan stands as a testament to a three-year collaborative effort among forward-thinking partners. This collaboration aims to equip young people with the skills needed for tomorrow’s job market while simultaneously addressing the issue of affordable housing. At a time when the construction workforce is in short supply, 3D printed construction offers an alternative that matches the sturdiness and energy efficiency of traditional housing
The house itself is a two-bedroom 1,000 sq ft bungalow that includes a living room, a kitchen, and one full bathroom. The house is situated in Detroit and serves as an example of what can be achieved with 3D printing technology in the construction industry. The exterior of the house is strikingly different from traditional housing and features a textured surface created by the printing process itself. The interior of the home is more traditional, with warm-colored walls and windows that flood the space with natural light.
Advance Plumbing’s Partnership
The bathroom fixtures donated by Advance Plumbing Supply include a TOTO toilet, Delta bathroom hardware, and a Lacava sink. These high-end fixtures complement the home’s modern aesthetic, and their quality ensures that they will last for many years to come. The sleek faucets and shower fittings add a refined touch to the bathroom, while the sinks offer stylish and functional features that perfectly fit with the rest of the house.
